Plan your weekend workshops!

SPRUKE 2019 is on over the weekend of Friday 13 September— Sunday 15 September at SunPAC Sunnybank Performing Arts Complex and the adjacent Sunnybank Community and Sports Club. There is a program of workshops for ukulele players of all ages and stages. You can book all the workshops at SunPAC Box Office online or you can take your chance and book at the Box office when you get to the festival. For those who like to plan here is a summary of what’s on offer in chronological order. There’s free workshops including the Beginners Oasis sessions each morning, and all ticketed workshops are $23.

FRIDAY
AUTLA Professional Day- for ukulele leaders, teachers and anyone interested in working with the ukulele in any context. No matter what population you work with, or in what setting, this forum will be a great opportunity to gain some strategies for teaching new skills, learn some useful tips on technique and skill development and have some serious fun playing music together! AUTLA is the Australian Ukulele Teachers and Leaders Association Inc., an association to support and promote ukulele in the community and as an addition to teaching classroom music in schools. FREE Learn To Play Workshop- Linda Gough & Paul Morris
EVER WANTED TO PLAY THE UKULELE? This all ages workshop for those who’ve never picked up a ukulele before will have you playing by the time you leave.

Glam Slam Ukulele Workshop-The Thin White Ukes
The Thin White Ukes’ Glam Slam Ukulele workshops put classic ’70s riff-rock in the hands of uke players of all levels of proficiency, from beginners to shredders.

Ukulele Slide Workshop– Trevor Gollagher
Learn a basic blues slide tune and cool new techniques to add another dimension to your playing. Bring your own slide! Intermediate -Advanced players.

Learn an easy song or two for 30 mins

FREE Kine Kool Playalong- Kine Kool (Jim Bills & Steve Elbourn)
Get your feet tapping, hands strumming and voices singing. Expect great music, and your participation parts on screen. No wallflowers  at this event!

Thinking Outside the Box Workshop– Ukulele Death Squad
The Ukulele Death Squad, dives into an in depth look at alternative strums and finger picking. Beginner and intermediate ukers welcome.
Rehearsal (Maton) Room- 10:45 AM- 12:00 PM

Kooky Uke Arrangement Workshop– Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts
Song arrangements for uke, process and performance tips. Open to all levels but should be able to play basic chords.

FREE Get Jamming with Caroline & Zoe- Special guests The Thin White Ukes
Bring your ukes and your voice and get ready to Jam! All welcome.

Folk Elements Workshop-Jason Darling
Show how changes, dynamics, syncopation, simple harmonica fills and rhythm hand nuance can transform a standard accompaniment. Advanced beginner up.

Strum Like Jake Workshop– Ian Porter
Advanced strumming techniques uses Jake’s My Guitar Gently Weeps to teach the five strumming patterns used in many of Jake’s arrangements. Intermediate -Advanced.

Hot Stuff: Channel Your Inner Donna Summer Workshop – Cathy Welsford and Angie Smith
Parts for all levels of players from beginners to keen pickers and of course all shower singers as well.

Learn The Dots Workshop– Chantelle Riordan
How to play those sheet music rhythms and get you started finding the notes on your ukulele.Beginners to sheet music.

Vic inspires with his playing and share his tips. Everybody welcome uke players and the uke curious!

“Jazz” up basic chord progressions with simple chord substitutions. Intermediate level need to have a good knowledge of basic chords.

You’ve Got to Change Baby! Workshop- Tom Richter
Discover ‘Evil Ways’ by Santana focusing on chord changes, Latin rhythms and melodies with beginner and advanced parts.

Road to Riffing Workshop– Ruth Allen
How to get your fretting hand fingers moving so you can play simple riffs and fills and play a tune. Advanced beginners.

The Loveys Workshop-Heroic, Hip, Hilarious!
Vocal exercises, harmony tips, dress codes and life stories, all while teaching one or two of their original songs. All welcome.

Stagecraft 101 Workshop– Rowena & Hans Braaksma
An interactive workshop where you’ll learn targeted practice habits to get you ready for performing. All welcome.

All ticket sales are via SunPAC Box Office. The SunPAC transaction fee is $4:50 and applies per transaction regardless of number of tickets purchased. You can buy more than one ticket at a time. Before you checkout there is a button that says ADD MORE ITEMS. It opens to a page with a drop down list of all the SunPAC events.
