SPRUKE 2019

SPRUKE 2019 is on over the weekend of Friday 13 — Sunday 15 September at SunPAC (Sunnybank Performing Arts Complex) and the adjacent Sunnybank Community and Sports Club (SCSC).  The festival features live music, workshops, open mic, jams, a music bazaar and concerts.

Share, Perform and Relax with all things UKE!

There’ll be something for every ukulele enthusiast from 8 to 80 with a cabaret, concerts, workshops and performances all weekend. Beginners to advanced players, and those who like to sing along, are all welcome. Uke’n make music all weekend at SPRUKE 2019 — Brisbane’s Ukulele Festival.

Just bought a ukulele at the music bazaar? Come to the FREE All Ages Learn To Play Ukulele Workshops on Saturday and Sunday morning. Linda Gough and Paul Morris will have you comfortable with all the basics you need to start jamming with the rest. Guaranteed you’ll walk out of there with a grin from ear to ear! Want more?  Join a smaller group at the Beginners Oasis every 30 minutes you can learn a new song…maybe even two or three.

For more experienced players, step up to the Makai Open Mic, there’s four sessions over the weekend at the SunPAC Courtyard Cafe. Upskill and perfect your technique at one of  thirteen ticketed workshops. There’s something for every level of player with subjects ranging from Playing Slide Ukulele, strumming, arrangements, and reading music to Stagecraft.  Book tickets at SunPAC.

Maybe you just want to chill out and jam along. Join a jam in the SCSC Lounge, or just sit and enjoy the performances over a coffee and cake, light lunch or a cold one.

SPRUKE 2019 features four concerts and performances by 45 acts from all over Australia from the internationally acclaimed to the home grown heroes.  The festival starts on Friday the Thirteenth with the Cordoba Sprooky Cabaret, showcasing the talents of The Loveys, Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts, The Thin White Ukes, and Ukulele Death Squad. Come early enjoy a drink and catch up in the SunPAC foyer bar where Chysalis will be performing.  Bring your friends and make up a table, ticket includes canapes to the table with drinks available at the bar. Saturday afternoon features a FREE Schools Concert, where six local schools will perform individually and then come to gether to play an ensemble piece written for SPRUKE 2019 by Nathan Cahill. Following there is a FREE all ages workshop and mini concert from the talented Vic Kena.

We are very excited and thrilled to have as a special guest YouTube sensation and jazz diva Cynthia Lin. A treat for all fans, a Meet & Greet with Cynthia where you can buy all of her latest merchandise Saturday evening.  Cynthia is the opening act for the Lanikai Spruketacular Concert, joining her is the riotous Gypsy Rumble, and Australia’s most dangerous uke group Ukulele Death Squad. Sunday the festival closes with the FREE Morris Brothers Festival Finale. We wrap up a great weekend with performances from some of the BUMS Inc Community bands, the CAGE, the Free Range chUKES, and NUMBBUMS, as well as farewell performances from some of our headline acts. The winners of the Guitar Brothers Sprukestar Quest, and the winner of the Uke’n Parody Video Contest will perform, and the prizes awarded. Always a lot of fun and leaves all the audience and performers on a high, the perfect way to end the weekend.
