Road to Riffing with Ruth Allen
Take your first steps in playing melody and fills. You’ve learned the basic chords and a few strum patterns, what’s next? Learn how to get your fretting hand fingers moving so you can play simple riffs and fills and play a tune, as well as accompany one.
Advanced beginners – does not cover improvisation techniques.
In this highly practical session you will play live extracts from 4-6 songs and along the way you’ll learn to read tablature, work out how to navigate the fret board, see why scales are useful and how they can be fun, and take home exercises and suggestions for online resources that will take your playing to the next level.
Ruth aims to help people become the best uke player they can in the shortest possible time, with the least effort, and the most fun. James-Hill trained, she leads two groups and a pub choir in Port Macquarie, performs with Outlaws Big Ukulele Band and as SoloMojo and has taught at major festivals and for the Willoughby Uke Orchestra.
