A BUM from Tutu’s Takes the Top Job

No Comments SPRUKE Festival News

Brisbane Ukulele Music Society Inc. (BUMS) has appointed Max Borchardt as Festival Director for the 2017 ukulele festival, SPRUKE. Max, a writer, artist and enthusiastic ukulele player, brings fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the festival team as they tune up for the Brisbane’s biannual ukulele festival, a three-day event to be held in Spring.

Max is familiar to many Brisbane ukulele enthusiasts as a popular leader at BUMS jams and the facilitator of the Tutu’s (Toowong Third Tuesday Ukulele Strummers) group. He has quickly progressed from a festival attendee to becoming a festival committee member in 2015 to accepting the Festival Director role in 2017.

The festival Committee is only in the initial stages of planning, but SPRUKE 2017 promises to once again deliver a festival with a difference. “We want everyone from new players to experienced players, the uke curious and lovers of music to discover and make music at SPRUKE.” Max said.

Ukulele artists and enthusiasts from all over Australia attended the very first SPRUKE in 2013. The 2017 festival is building on the very successful program of previous years with even more jams, open mic’s, concerts, markets, and an extensive range of workshops catering for beginners to master class.
